save our grassroots

the problem

Over 100,000 football matches are cancelled every year as extreme weather makes pitches unplayable. Across the UK, community sports grounds and green spaces are being lost to flooding - volunteers are struggling to keep up, and it’s communities who lose out.

These spaces are at the heart of local communities, bringing together people from all backgrounds and ages together: players, walkers, youth groups and sports clubs. Without grassroots sports, we would never have our rich tapestry of international sportspeople we’re so proud of, and we’d lose a central part of our British heritage.

OUR CAMPAIGN

Following the success of last year’s campaign, Save Our Grassroots ’25 is turning awareness into action.

With £100k in funding and 100,000 trees pledged, we’re delivering natural flood solutions across the UK - protecting the fields, parks, and pitches where Britain comes together.

This year, we’re partnering with organisations that care about community, sport and nature, to help protect our green spaces that keep us connected.

OUR goals

01

Protect community green spaces by championing nature-based solutions - so they remain places for play, connection, and community.

02

Mobilise clubs, volunteers and supporters to sign the national petition and demand government action.

03

Raise awareness and inspire pride in local green spaces - turning climate concern into community action.
